Description

General Description
This pair of howitzers previously flanked a stairway leading to the southern entrance of the previous Scott Building (Building 80). The bronze guns are mounted on concrete bases. The easternmost gun is a 1301 lb. boat howitzer and was cast in 1863 by the Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee, Massachusetts. The western gun was cast in 1855 at the U.S. Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. Both are marked "J.A.D." (John A. Dahlgren). The howitzers were removed when the previous Scott Building was demolished in 2011-2012 and are now in temporary storage.
